Vivo Energy, the company that markets and distributes Shell and Engen-branded fuels and lubricants across Africa, has announced its support to the Didier Drogba Foundation with a donation for an education project in the central-western region of Côte d’Ivoire.
The funding will support a pilot programme at Niaprahio School in the district of Guibéroua, benefiting rural communities in the area. The initiative will help improve school infrastructure by providing desks, teachers’ furniture and catering equipment for school canteens. In addition, the programme will distribute 1,000 school kits to vulnerable pupils, helping to reduce the risk of school dropouts. The project will also promote digital learning and raise awareness of energy and sustainability issues among students.
Founded in 2007 by Ivorian football legend Didier Drogba, the Didier Drogba Foundation works to advance health, childhood and education and female empowerment across Africa. Through its programmes, the Foundation supports economic and social initiatives at local, regional and continental levels, with a strong focus on improving the wellbeing and educational opportunities of children in underserved communities.
Vivo Energy is committed to social responsibility, environmental stewardship and community development. Partnerships are a core pillar of its Sustainability Framework (People, Planet and Partnerships) with community investment programmes prioritising education, health and renewable energy.
Stan Mittelman, CEO of Vivo Energy, said: “This partnership with the Didier Drogba Foundation reflects our commitment to helping fuel Africa’s future. At Vivo Energy, we are dedicated to supporting communities and improving quality of life while contributing to a more sustainable future. By partnering with trusted local organisations such as the Didier Drogba Foundation, we can amplify the impact of our support and ensure it is targeted where it matters most. Caring is one of our core values, and we strive to demonstrate it through meaningful actions that benefit the communities we serve.”
Didier Drogba, President of the Didier Drogba Foundation, said: “This partnership with Vivo Energy represents a shared commitment to investing in the future of African children. By improving learning conditions and expanding access to education, we are helping to give young people the tools they need to build better futures for themselves and their communities.”
This announcement coincides with Vivo Energy’s Sustainability Week, a Group-wide initiative aimed at reflecting on progress made in sustainability and reinforcing its commitments for the future. Vivo Energy implements community investment programmes throughout Africa in partnership with local organisations, focused on advancing education, health and renewable energy across the continent. From 1 to 7 June, employees across all markets will participate in activities celebrating this longstanding commitment to partnerships. This year’s theme, “Kicking Off for Sustainability,” highlights the role of sports in driving positive social impact. Through sports-related community initiatives, Vivo Energy aims to promote health, support education and contribute to stronger, more resilient communities.
